Getting ready to buy a home stereo?
Here's a checklist to hlep you get through it:
Determine Your Needs
Consider how often you’ll use a system. Is it for background
music or easy listening then you might want to consider a
pre-packaged system. If you are going for rela music
appreciation the select separate components. Both offer
excellent value, but separate components offer the best sound
quality.
You Have to Establish a Budget
It all goes back to the first question - waht do you
need. If you and the family are goin got use the
equipment a lot then you'll want to set a budget of at least
$500 and more if yuo want ot go the compnent route. You
should be able to find a system that will meet your needs and
your budget.
Make Use of the Internet
The Internet can be used to research products and features
and in most cases make an economical purchase. However,
if you are going to be spending thousands on your systems then
you may prefer to see, touch and hear the product first.
Exchanges or upgrades can be more difficult if you buy online.
If you already know what you want then an online purchase may
be fine.
Select Components
Unless you’re buying a pre-packaged system, you shoul dspend
yuor money on speakers. Speakers are the most important factor
for sound quality and they determine the amount of amplifier
power you will need. If you get cheap speakers no amount of
money spent on the amplifier or receiver will make them sound
good. Select speakers based on your personal listening
preferences by taking a few familiar music discs with you to
the store. Listen and compare the sound qualities of each
speaker. You don’t have to know a lot about speakers to know
what you like. Most printed specifications mean little when
comparing speakers.
The easy part - Buy'em
You know what you want so what's left? - Just buy
them. But before you do, step back and ask yourself if
you like the product enough to justify the purchase price and
will it be easy (or difficult) to return it or exchange it if I
don't like it?
If you've made it this far - happy listening!
